Ron Covell, one of the most renowned metalshaping craftsman in the hot rod industry brings his Metalshaping Workshops to South Texas once again. Vintage Air will host Covell’s Metalshaping Workshops on Saturday May 21, 2011 and Sunday May 22, 2011. The project for these workshops will be making a fender, similar to a '36 Ford rear fender, and a flush fitting fender skirt. Saturday’s workshop is Extreme Metalshaping 1 which we wil focus on cutting out all the pieces, doing the shaping on each piece, and starting to weld the panels together to construct the fender. Sunday will be Extreme Metalshaping 2 where we will finish welding and smoothing the fender, do the edge work, and then make the skirt. Most skirts overlap the fender, which hides any problems with the fit, but this one will fit flush, so it requires a lot of careful work to ensure that it fits tightly, with no gaps!
The workshops are very informal, and much time is spent answering questions asked by the participants. the cost is $190.00 per day, with lunch included. Workshops are filled on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to register early, since workshops fill quickly! These workshops are given as a lecture-demonstration, and are not hands on. A huge amount of information is covered each day, with many unexpected questions, and some surprising answers.
